The reason people have their countertops refinished is price and time. Refinishing is far cheaper than tearing out the old counters. Even replacing the old counters with new Formica counters will cost 3 to 5 times the cost of refinishing. And to replace the counters with real granite can be from 10 to 15 times the cost of refinishing. Maybe they are getting the house ready to sell or the counters are damaged. This is where you come in and save them a lot of money.
Who would be your potential customer?
Every house, condo and apartment has kitchen and bath countertops and sooner or later they get old looking or damaged. These are all potential customers.
The real gold mine of customers is apartment complexes. 40% of all housing units in the U.S. are apartments. So, looking around your city, every apartment complex is your prime target. Apartment owners are not interested in buying new countertops for $600 to $800. They want to repair and refinish the counters they already have. They not only need your refinishing services they are anxious to receive your services.
I have been in the refinishing business for 20 years and I can tell you apartment countertops get trashed all the time. There is always a portion of renters who do not take care of their apartment. Their worst thing of all is using the counters as a cutting board and setting hot pans on the counters resulting in burns to the countertops. After these people move out, this damage must be repaired in order to rent to the new tenants. No one will rent an apartment with burned and grungy looking counters

About the dvd and training manual:
In this training dvd I teach you everything you need to know about countertop refinishing. I walk you thru several refinishing jobs. From the time I walk in the door to the time the masking paper is removed. Every step of the way is detailed. I show you how to make repairs such as burns and broken pieces. In the training manual I again go thru the refinishing process from beginning to end.
I also supply you with marketing ideas. Ideas that I have used over the years to build a successful business. This is one of the easiest businesses to market and get started.
I tell you how to price your services. I always tried to price my refinishing services so that I averaged about $100 per hour or more. If you can do two or more apartments in the same complex the same day, you can make way more than $100 per hour. On my best day I made $1,200 and I was working by myself. There is some real money to be made in this business.
About the equipment:
You will need some equipment such as a spray gun, masking paper and tape, some drop cloths, etc. All of the equipment you need except the spray gun can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes, or someplace like that. The spray gun can be purchased by mail at a different tool supplier. In the training manual I give you a detailed list of all the equipment you need and where to get it to get started in your new business.
About the coatings:
You will need some coatings to get started. I will show you who has been my supplier for many years. They offer the best coatings possible. They have great customer service and ship their products on time.
Your initial order of coating will cost about $400. This is enough coating to do $3,500 to $4,500 worth of work.
How easy is it to refinish a countertop?
Super easy. After doing your first half dozen counters you will almost be a pro. For practice you can start on your own counters or your friends counters. You can also approach an apartment owner and offer to do some counters for a reduced rate. This way you get some practice and they get some great looking countertops.
Another great thing about this business
With this business you can work out of your home. You do not have to rent a shop somewhere. Renting a shop can cost several hundred dollars a month.
You do not need a work truck or van. You can use the trunk of your car. You only need room for the 3 medium size tubs that will contain your coatings and equipment. I used my car when I first started out in my business.
By using your car and home you can keep your overhead as low as possible. Every dollar you don’t need to spend is a dollar that goes into your pocket.
What other possibilities are available?
Unknown to most people, the apartment rental industry is a huge market unto itself. While countertop refinishing is the most lucrative part of that industry, they also need carpet cleaners and apartment cleaners. Once you are in the door with refinishing you can broaden your business to include the carpet and apt. cleaning services. These are both low initial cost services you can add to your business. Apartment managers want to deal with as few vendors as possible so the more services you offer the more dependent they will be upon your company.
Another note: Appliance refinishing. The same company that makes the countertop coating also makes a coating that can be used to recolor refrigerators, dishwasher fronts, range hoods, etc. I did a lot of appliance refinishing and made great money from it.
It’s that simple! This is not a complicated business. That’s why I got into it. Low startup costs, easy to learn, and great income.
